[edit] Life

[edit] Crime

  • Virginia, USA: Pray for the bereaved in the recent shooting. A lone gunman shot and killed eight people in the US state of Virginia. All the dead were adults - men and women. Seven bodies were discovered at one home, while an eighth victim found on a road died on the way to hospital. Pray also that troubled people who so quickly resort to guns might find the Lord Jesus in the midst of their despair and anger. (20 January 2010)

[edit] Government

  • There is a need to pray for the U.S. presidential election campaign which is in full swing that the Lord will raise up the person of His choice to be our next President (election in November 08). We cannot afford to get the wrong leader at such a crossroads in our history. This is a crucial time for the USA and many feel that our nation has entered a time of God’s judgement and purification. May we listen to Him and allow Him to correct us, giving us a new vision as a people!
  • The USA’s role in the world in recent years has been unique as the sole superpower. Every policy choice in economics, politics and use of the armed forces has global reverberations. The US President wields awesome power. Pray for the President, his choice of leadership team, the Congress and Senate and their legislation so that decisions may be wisely made and well balanced between often conflicting domestic and international requirements.
  • Thanks for your prayers for the American national election. For many, it was not the outcome that was desired and there are deep lingering concerns about the future of the USA, given the serious economic and other worrying issues we face. Please continue to pray for all those elected to serve with humility, honesty and with the love and fear of God, coming to experience these things if they don’t yet do so. Especially please pray for the President-elect, Barack Obama, that he will honor the Lord, really seeking to know Jesus Christ and do His will so that the awesome power and responsibility he is being given will be exercised for the good of this nation and our world. The next few months are crucial as he chooses his cabinet and decides how to structure the rest of his administration.
  • Dr Rick Warren, pastor of the Saddleback Church in California, in his prayer of invocation at Barack Obama’s inauguration as President said, we celebrate a hingepoint of history, the inauguration of the first African American as president of the United States. Pray for Barack Obama as he and his team settle into office and grapple with the problems facing the USA. Pray that integrity, honesty and justice might characterize the working of this new administration.

[edit] Buddhism

  • There are now some 6 million Buddhists in America. The true sign of Buddhism’s integration into American culture: Buddhist ideas and symbols can be found in bookstores, gift shops and business retreats, including Buddha T-shirts, key chains, photo holders, books coaching readers to become a bodhisattva, and meditation music.

[edit] History

[edit] Churches

  • The Christian Church is not impacting the nation as it should.
  • Prayer challenges:
  • biblical holiness;
  • commitment to the Bible;
  • spiritual unity;
  • withdrawal from, or involvement in, public life;
  • young people(the next generation could be America’s most traumatized ever);
  • the Afro-American community;
  • the Native Americans/First Nations;
  • the growing prison population.

[edit] Mission

  • Pray for two 'Traveling Teams' of motivated, missions-minded, young people (in their 20s) who visit college campuses around the USA. They challenge the students as they present missions, representing several mission agencies. Each team has a full itinerary during the school calendar year, dividing the US into different regions, and saturating those areas with the needs of the lost and opportunities for ministry.
