This quote is a bit controversial-

"that there is a great branching that took place at the Reformation, but before that there was a solid trunk, and that trunk was planted in Rome."

The church of Rome has exalted it's importance and authority over all other churches in an artificial way. Protestantism wasn't a natural outgrowth of a healthy organism like the Roman church. The reformation attempted to put an axe to the root of a diseased tree.

  • Please sign comments. Agreed that the RC church was not necessarily healthy, but it's a bit of an overstatement to say the Reformation tried to destroy the church. Martin Luther would have preferred to remain in the Catholic Church, and the Reformation was a movement, not a single entity. As a movement, there was a large diversity of opinion over what should be done. JustinLong 02:48, 21 September 2007 (MDT)
