[edit] Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization

The Lausanne Movement is a global network of Christian leaders from missions, churches and educational and training institutions who share a commitment to world evangelization.

[edit] Lausanne I

The movement was launched at the prompting of Dr. Billy Graham at the 1974 International Congress on World Evangelization (Lausanne I) in Lausanne, Switzerland. That historic gathering made three important contributions to world evangelization:

  • Helped evangelicals rediscover their heritage and responsibility to holistic ministry.
  • Introduced the concept of Unreached People Groups to a global audience.
  • Produced The Lausanne Covenant, considered by many to be the most significant mission document of the Protestant era.

[edit] Lausanne II in Manila

In 1989, more than 3,600 leaders from 190 nations attended Lausanne II in Manila, Philippines. The resulting Manila Manifesto reaffirmed and expanded on The Lausanne Covenant and the call to “proclaim Christ until He comes.” Since then, dozens of Lausanne-related global and regional conferences have convened worldwide.
