[edit] Economy
- In the 1940’s oil was discovered under Kuwait and with it came economic prosperity and rapid growth. Today, Kuwaiti citizens enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the world. Along with affluence has come a rapid increase in the population, both of expatriate workers as well as Kuwaiti citizens.

[edit] Religion
- Muslim 87,4% (Sunni 70%, Shi’a 30%), Christianity 8.2%, Hinduism 2.5% other (includes Parsi) 1,9%
[edit] Islam
[edit] Buddhism
[edit] Christianity
- Since the Iraqi occupation, Kuwait has returned to stability and affluence. Materialism is rampant and public morals declining, but restrictions on Christianity still remain. Pray that the Kuwaiti leaders and people might become open to the Christian faith and not merely to godless Western values. Only a few hundred Kuwaitis are known to be believers.
[edit] History
[edit] Churches
- Presently, over fifty different (non-Kuwaiti) Protestant congregations and language groups meet weekly for worship. There is substantial freedom to worship, and little government-directed persecution of God’s people. However, persecution does occur in the form of harassment of converts from Islam by their families. Expatriate Christians may be expelled for inappropriate overt witness to locals, and national Christians are not allowed to freely profess their faith and worship their Saviour.
[edit] Church and State Relations
- The Kuwaiti government not only allows Christianity as long the believers of foreign nationalities) to flourish but also provides meeting facilities for Christian worship. In any given week various congregations amounting to 40,000 people use the facilities to hold church services. Many Christians believe that the Lord has called them to be a lighthouse to the surrounding nations.
[edit] Mission and Evangelization
- The Gospel message is communicated via legal forms of mass media – television, radio, and printed articles.
- Many Kuwaitis are discovering Christ through satellite TV. Pray that local Christians will be able to disciple and equip them.
