[edit] What is the Mission Manual?
The Mission Manual is a free, online, definitive description and analysis of global Christianity, Christian mission, and the unreached.
[edit] History
There have been a long line of mission atlases, handbooks, dictionaries and encyclopedias that describe the task of world evangelization and our attempts to complete it. This Manual is the merger of such a kind of book with a Wiki. It is an experiment in the next generation of mission handbooks: whether it is possible to create an accurate, constantly updated missions encyclopedia online for minimal cost involving numerous information contributors from around the world.
[edit] Benefits
The benefits of such a work, if it can be accomplished, include minimal cost, global access, constant updates, rapid correction of errors, and the ability to go far more in-depth on specific subjects (such as a specific denomination or people group) than a print book would be. The pitfalls, as with any open-source encyclopedia (such as http://www.wikipedia.com) are a lack of quality on individual sparsely edited entries. However, open source encyclopedias have shown themselves to be extremely resistant to these dangers and of great value.
[edit] How you can participate
You can edit any article, even without logging in. The Manual is a special type of website, called a wiki, that makes collaboration easy. Lots of people can constantly change the text, and every change is recorded in article histories. Inappropriate changes can be easily removed and repeat offenders can be blocked from editing.
Don't be afraid to edit—anyone can edit almost any page, and we encourage you to be bold! Find something that can be improved, whether content, grammar or formatting, and make it better. You can't break Missiopedia. Anything can be fixed or improved later. So go ahead, edit an article and help us make this the best source on the Internet describing Christian missions!
