[edit] History
- Interserve is an international agency with personnel (partners) from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, New Zealand, and North America, Interserve may be the oldest interdenominational Christian mission agency. Originally an all-women British mission society to Calcutta, India (1852), Interserve became open to men in 1950. In that decade, its work began in Afghanistan with the Noor Eye Hospital under the International Afghan Mission (IAM), now called the International Assistance Mission. Then came a communist coup dethroning the monarch, a Russian counter-coup and its rejection, the Taliban, and in 2002 the U.S. military. Interserve partners stayed and served through it all! Interserve’s 23 partners serve Jesus by serving Afghans in health care, education, and community development. Their doctors and nurses care for expectant mothers, premature babies, eye patients, and war wounded. They teach ophthalmology and community health. They welcome Afghan refugees home. They gossip the gospel sharing Messiah’s love.
