• Celtic monasticism was far more engaged with the world than Egyptian monasticism or Byzantine monasticism. Celtic monasteries were intentionally evangelistic, planted in order to proclaim the Gospel and plant churches where there were none.
• The early traditions of Celtic monasticism were likely derived from the monastery at Lerins.
