[edit] Life

  • Bosnia-Herzegovina is like the Balkans in miniature. The country is peaceful, but not at peace. Three peoples in one nation divided along religious and ethnic lines. Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs holding firmly to their religious and cultural identities. There is severe poverty, especially among the gypsy community. In a sense, the war still goes on, because the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina has never been solved. The Dayton Accords were like the foundation for something that either needed to heal or separate.
  • Bosnian refugees are scattered around the world as well as in Bosnia itself. Of the 1.3 million who fled to other lands only 400,000 had returned by 2000. Most of the internally displaced are still homeless. May that Muslims, Orthodox and Catholics alike find healing for their deep psychological wounds, peace with God and with one another through faith in Christ and willingness to forgive the perpetrators of their misery. Pray for UN personnel, as well as secular and Christian NGOs who seek to help Bosnians rebuild their lives.

  • The evangelical church is small and seen as a cult by the majority, but she can stand at the forefront, that healing between the peoples will take place. The evangelical pastors need perseverance and encouragement in the face of slow growth and hostility from the wider population.
