[edit] Life

  • Armenia needs peace and good relations with surrounding nations for survival and economic reconstruction. Surrounded on all sides by majority Muslim countries, centuries of bitter conflict, oppression and massacres have left a legacy of hatred and mistrust between these nations. In 1915 the Turks massacred 1.5 million Armenians because they were Christian and considered a threat. Pray for forgiveness by all and for wise rebuilding of trust and good neighbourliness by the nation’s leaders. The 1700 years of Armenia as a Christian nation, the world’s first, was celebrated in 2001. Pray that Armenian Christians might become a source of light and blessing to surrounding nations — few have a significant indigenous church. Over the past 10 years a number of Armenians have gone to serve the Lord in Russia and Muslim lands. Pray that this movement may grow.
  • Armenia has had hundreds of years of conflict with surrounding countries, it has been invaded, oppressed and millions of Armenians have been massacred. Armenia has a huge diaspora and has always experienced waves of emigration, but the exodus of recent years has caused real alarm. It is estimated that Armenia has lost up to a quarter of its population since independence, as young families seek what they hope will be a better life abroad. Pray for the witness of those Christians who remain to demonstrate the power of Christ in their lives to others.

  • There have been Christians in Armenia for 1700 years! More and more Christians are going out from Armenia to serve God in Russia and Muslim countries. Pray that this missionary movement would grow and impact many people.
